Recognized as Mark Antony of American-British-Italian historical drama television series ‘Rome‘, James Purefoy’s movie, ‘Solomon Kane’ made world debut in Toronto international film festival this month. Telling about his character in the movie he said, “He starts off as a bad guy and has to seek redemption after … this guy tells him he’s going to go to hell. And he decides, no, that’s not going to happen and then spends two years in a monastery, trying to atone for his sins. And then everybody gets chucked out of the monastery and he goes on a journey …”

He further told that this character’s unique trait was that he did not used to offer words but spoke only when something was asked to him. The following scene is from the movie itself and we can watch him playing the character of Kane.

There are many other big proposals coming on his way because of the fame he achieved by playing the character in the highly appreciated TV show ‘Rome‘. He got this movie also because of his good acting in ‘Rome’.

“James wasn’t initially in the front of my mind for Kane,” said the writer/ director Michael J. Bassett, “because he has a sort of contemporary vibe. Niobe of Rome, Indira Varma, on ABC ‘Inside the Box’

You know her as Indira Varma or Niobe of Rome or an important character of Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love. Anyways, for me, she is the young Roman wife Niobe seen during the first season of Rome. She also made a brief appearance in the second season of the show. Although, Rome didn’t go very long but the star cast of series managed to secure a nice place in the hearts of the fans with their superb acting skills and Indira is one of those well-accepted names. Rome went off air only after the two seasons only but it’s alive in our hearts till date.

Well, Indira Varma, British-Indian actress, has secured a leading role on the new NBC drama ‘Inside the Box’. ‘Inside the Box’ is a presentation of Shonda Rhimes, Grey’s Anatomy fame. Varma would be playing the character of Catherine, a producer at a Washington network news bureau. Her characteristics include being fast talking; whip smart and caring only for her own good. Rome: Caesarion

Historical dramas never fail to interest me unless they are shoddily made. It could be due to the fact that we don’t get to see many historical shows and even those which are made, are more of costume dramas than anything else. ‘Rome’ was a fascinating series that enthralled the viewers with its grandeur and in depth research. It has, in fact, become a sort of touchstone against whom all historical series will be measured. The episode that I found most memorable and moving was titled ‘Caesarion’. In the beginning of the episode, Caesar follows Pompey into Egypt and meets the boy king, Ptolemy XIII. He gets extremely agitated when presented with severed head of Pompey and demands the beheading of killer. He also asks Egyptians to pay the debts that they owe to Rome otherwise he would side up with Cleopatra, the disinherited sister of Ptolemy XIII, who is also vying for the throne.

Vorenus and Pullo save Cleopatra from assassins sent by Ptolemy XIII, and while Vorenus defies her orders to impregnate her, Pullo complies happily before returning her to Caesar. Caesar makes love to her through out the night while guards attack his fortress and besiege it. Servilia and Octavia enjoy a lesbian sex night quite unaware of what’s happening.

Back in Rome, Anthony warns Cicero that if he ever heard his name in rumors of treason he would demanuate him and conveys the news of Caesar’s victory over Ptolemy XIII and his faction in the Senate. He also relays the fact that Caesar is now the supreme ruler of Egypt.

Back in Egypt, cheering soldiers welcome Caesar and Cleopatra and their baby boy. An unaffected Vorenus keeps staring and in an ephemeral moment perceives the fading love of soldiers for Caesar.

This particular episode was not so much about the great historical moments but it was more about the sensitive and dramatic portrayal of characters and how turn of events affects their lives. Kevin McKidd winks to the ‘Grey’s Anatomy Fans’

Scottish actor Kevin McKidd, who’s very well known for his roles on HBO’s ‘Rome’ and NBC’s short lived drama ‘Journeyman’, is appearing on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’.

Hurrah! ‘Rome’ fans who’re eager to watch their favorite celebrities, would like to say ‘Thanks’ to the creators. Now, you may catch him there playing a US Army Surgeon Owen Hunter. So, the man has set all his plans to raise your heart beats once again. On ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, he catches the eye of Dr. Cristina Yang, being portrayed by Sandra Oh. Well, after series’ announcement about season 5, there’re speculations about a new hottie? But I was not in hope to see Kevin…. And when I first watched him on ‘Grey’s’…. I felt very happy and it reminded me the days of ‘Rome’. ‘Rome’ came to an end just after two seasons, but it was a show which must have been given some more seasons. But unluckily, we’re left in mid by the creators.

To be honest, ‘Rome’ would never be back but you can please your lust by watching your favorite stars on some other shows e.g. ‘Grey’s Anatomy’. Currently, it’s running with season 5. Well, Kevin has signed an agreement to appear in 11 episodes, but if things remain okay, he may join the cast, as a regular member. I think, it’d be great to watch a man, who was previously seen in a historical drama, with medical instruments in his hand……

As of now, it’s cool to see him in ‘Grey’s Anatomy’…. And I wish him to sign some more episodes. I’m already very much impressed by his appearance on ‘Rome’ as Lucius Vorenus’. He was one of the two soldiers, who struggled hard to manage his personal trusts, his dedication towards his nation, his duty to superiors, and his need to fulfill the needs of his family and friends as well. Hmm…. We’ll never see him portraying the very same role.

Rome; A splendid show

I am a die hard fan of period movies and historical drama. There is such a dearth of historical dramas on the television but this series ROME fascinated me completely. It is one thing to read history and another to watch it come alive. The sets were authentic looking and character portrayal much better than ever before. The millions they spent on creating those mammoth sets were money well spent. Do you know that Rome is one of the most expensive historical serials ever made?

It has been criticized for not sticking to the facts. But then it is not a text book. One can always consult text books for that. The serial’s strong point was the sensitive depiction of the characters and the working of their minds set this epic drama apart from any other historical serial. One get transported to the ancient Rome while watching it. Especially the episode showing the death of Julius Caesar was very impressive. The politics surrounding the power has remained same over the centuries; I mean, the ruthlessness with which political aspirants disposed off their rivals is still the same. It’s a classic to which one can return again and again.

There has been a buzz about its being made into a film. But nothing has come of it so far. Lots of fans like me would love to have another go at it I am sure. I wonder why there is no third season of this show. Any idea???

Heroes of the republic

Have you seen this episode ‘Heroes of Republic ‘ of the show ‘Rome’? This was completely Vorenus’s episode. The same man who left his wife doubting her, and thinking that she has as affair with somebody and also cursed his children. Eventually his wife dies in the previous episodes and obviously his children hate him for his hatred for them. In this episode he rescues his children and wants to bring them back home. But kids are now unwilling to go with the killer of their mother, so they reach their aunt’s house and their aunt suggests them to forgive their father and go with him. Kids follow her advice but not wholeheartedly, they come with their father just to save their lives and to have two square meals a day. So they pretend as they love their father a lot but keep their fingers crossed at their lie.

I liked this episode a lot, because from the last many episodes we were watching just war and war and war. In this episode I found some emotional drama blended with the evergreen serious tone of Rome. I like this show, and I am a bit sad that it’s not on screen anymore. That’s why I prefer to watch the show over here. Today I watched this episode and got really impressed so decided to write about it. This episode is really touchy and you must watch it. But I heard a buzz about the ‘Rome‘ movie is confirmed. But till now I don’t have any information about movie. So we have to wait more for that.

So I was talking about Rome tv show , it was running in on off format. Initially the show was quite absorbing and then the wars started and continued for many episodes and then again story came back on track. A few episodes were fabulous but a few made it dull. I suppose this was the reason behind not stretching it to more seasons.

Historic events always fascinate me, and the show was serving to that thirst in me. You will notice that there are many similarities between the old times and now.

Rome is impressive

Rome was a very prestigious project of HBO which has made a place in the classics ever produced on the TV. It’s a series which could be watched after many years and is still found relevant as the power struggle that forever. There are no friends and no enemies in the politics, and power hungry politicians don’t shy from stabbing their friends in back if it suits their purpose.

‘Rome’ contains both of the flavors history as well as Politics. So I think this is the best choice for the people who love reading history.

I do like history and reading about other countries, but I hardly get enough time. So this TV show was the best source to satisfy my hunger for the historical drama. What we watch has greater impact than what we read. I got to know many interesting things about Rome from this series. Rome season 1 includes the transformation of Roman republic society into the Roman Empire, as the rulers became very wealthy that they used their power to tip the balance of power in their favor turning republic into dictatorship. The political developments and cunning policies were depicted in a fine way in this season. I don’t know why the show didn’t go for the third season.

Whatever I had read about the Rome in the books became more clear and visible to me after watching this show. Now I can write in the better way about Rome than before. Secondly, in books I had read about just the events, but by Watching the Show you get a glimpse in to their life style, routine and culture. The show concentrated on every detail to make ancient Rome come alive in our living rooms.

Season 1 finale Kalends of February

Previously, we’re discussing on Rome season 2 finale, so today I am here to discuss Season 1 Finale with you buddies….

So, season’s finale opens with Pullo and Vorenus fighting the final gladiator in the arena. Cicero plans to add 100 new senators mainly from Celtic and Gallic tribes. Pullo and Lucius are considered as local heroes by the people, so Caesar decides to make them senators. Cimber, Cassius and Casca plot to kill Caesar.

Caesar doesn’t want to follow Posca’s advice and his fully trust his new friend Vorenus for his protection. Caesar goes to the Senate House as usual and on the other hand, Vorenus heads to his home quickly after listening that his son has gone missing, leaving Caesar unguarded. Trebonius removes Caesar’s outer toga layer and Casca strikes the first blow, cutting Caesar’s hand.

Vorenus faces up his wife, Niobe, who commits suicide after their confrontation. Caesar is dying, Brutus walks over to him. Caesar expects a friendly behavior from him. But Brutus also betrays his trust and shows his loyalty towards senate. So, this was the Rome season 1 finale. Following are the best lines from the episode-

Servilia: So you see the tyrant is dead, the republic is restored and you are alone. Would you like some honey water?

Vorenus: What’s wrong?
Niobe: You’re still awake?
Vorenus: You’re worrying very loudly.

Caesar: I was just about to wake you. Wherever you were you were not enjoying yourself.

So, what says? Rome is over but I really want series to come back, if not more, at least for once. Are there any chances?

Rome: such a distinction

I’m a TV addict and lot of my time is spent Watching tv shows (yeah, yeah, free time). I’ve watched innumerous TV shows and have written reviews on several TV episodes. While talking about TV series, people usually say TV shows are repeating themselves.

And, it’s true to some extent. You’ll find same story, same arc with different characters’ on some TV show. But, there’s only one show which can be called distinct, or truly different TV show.

Yeah, I’m talking about ‘Rome’. Show’s big budget and production values make the show look like a movie rather than a Television show. That’s why Rome has won Golden Globe, Emmy Nomination and BAFTA awards. Watch the Best of Rome here. Series opens with the conflict between Pompey and his long time friend Caesar. It’s a story as old as the story of humanity itself - both men want power and Rome just isn’t big enough for the two of them. Series like Rome are rarely made and whenever they are made, they never fail to leave their mark on the viewers.

Rome has successfully completed 2 seasons. But now, it’s officially confirmed that Season 3 is not coming. What rubbish, why did they cancel the series? Quality shows are very rare, and those which are there, are being cancelled. Aah! I’m feeling so helpless. Well, what to do?

Rome Season 3: Not Coming

Rome has completed two successful seasons but after two seasons only, the hit HBO series has been cancelled. What’re the reasons behind the cancellation of the show? Well, it’s clear now that the series has been cancelled due to low rating and too many expenses.

They have decided to cancel the show and there’re no ‘Rome’ episodes for the last one year.
